After graduating in 1983, Jalal Ahmad established an architectural firm in partnership with two other architects. In 1997 after dissolution of the partnership firm he started his independent practice J. A. Architect. Over the last 23 years he has designed varied projects ranging from small training center made of mud blocks to large academic institutions and from prototype low cost houses for the rural poor to multifamily urban apartments. For his designs, he often draws inspiration from the elements of traditional architecture but never imitates the past. His recent projects are expressions of innovative design solutions in response to their context and contemporary needs.
Jalal Ahmad jointly won 1st prize in the Mujibnagar Memorial design competition in 1984. Beside buildings, he has also been actively involved in various planning and interior projects.
A number of building projects designed by Jalal Ahmad has been published in leading international & national architectural journals.
Currently, he is a visiting faculty at the Department of Architecture, University of Asia Pacific, Dhaka.
He has also served as an elected member of the Executive Committee of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB).
He is a founder executive committee member of the architectural research & study group Chetana Sthapatya Unnayan Society.
