 suppose you are an architect. You got a comission where you have to build a single residence. The site is difficult, so you have to give importance in one of these: comfort or aesthetics. You cannot work with both properly cause site is difficult. So What will be your main aim? to make the building climatically comfortable, though the building will not looks good aesthetically? or you will neglect the comfort and give importance to the beauty? and WHY?  No site is 'difficult site'. Who can do good architecture, can do it everywhere in every site in every situation.
Aesthetic beauty never conflicts with functional soundness. In other words which is properly functional and proportionate to the program and function that is beautiful automatically. One needs not to give effort make something beautiful. Beauty comes out of functional soundness, proportion and philosophical consciousness.
So both are always important simultaneously, beauty and functionality can't exist without the presence of other.

 but sometimes in the jury, we found that teachers are criticising that we had to make it more functional and our answer is i couldn't make it because of composition. In that case what is much important to u? function or beauty?

 but function is only for that resident. This buildings function will not enjoy by other people. You are building a structure on a place of your country. Though u have enoufh money and u have buy that place but the place is not become only your. U cannot do whatever you want on that place. you should be responsible to your country. When you pass through a beautiful building u will feel good. It will change the environment of that place. Function will only help that owner and beauty will change the environment. I am trying to say that if u have money u cannot do whatever u want for you. You have to be careful to the country and other citizen. So when we face a difficulty between function and aesthetics we should give importance to aesthetics. Cause it can be see easily and can be enjoyed by much people. Edited Sat May 05 2007, 02:36am

 functionality & aesthetics these two terms are inseparable in our profession.

people will give us money in return of our services as professionals [that in Architect], and it has to be GOOD.

Important factor is that, without considering functionality a project is not going to work, on the other hand without considering aesthetics a project can work some how.

I am not saying this to forget about aesthetics. I am just trying to show the frequency of Importance.

however, when a project is functionally well_solved, there is no reason for us to think that project is not beautiful unless the designer intentionally tried to create it to be ugly.
